Outreach St. Peter’s is currently in the forefront of an effort to provide assistance and, someday soon, a shelter to battered women of Altavista. St. Peter’s was responsible for forming the community-wide task force that is now exploring a cooperative relationship with the YWCA of Lynchburg, who has offered their expertise and guidance, and with several governmental agencies. St. Peter’s members select an organization each month to which we direct outreach funds. All undesignated offerings during Sunday worship go these organizations, as well as a designated amount of our annual budget. We supply DAWN (Donation A Week Neighbor) with soup (chicken noodle and tomato) all year long. Each Christmas time we participate in the Prison Ministry Angel Tree Project, helping those who are incarcerated to give presents to their children. Additionally, our Christmas tree is decorated with gloves, mittens, hats and scarves that we then give to DAWN for distribution to those in need.
